The New York Giants are widely thought to have a strong desire for this standout NFL Draft quarterback prospect.

We’re eagerly anticipating the commencement of the 2024 NFL Draft on April 25, with all eyes on the Chicago Bears possibly selecting Caleb Williams as the top pick. However, beyond that, the projections become murkier, particularly concerning the plans of teams like the New York Giants.

State of the Giants' QB room entering the draft

The Giants possess the sixth pick in the draft, granting them significant sway on the draft’s opening day, depending on their strategic direction. Considering their requirements, it appears logical for the Giants to prioritize securing a top-tier receiver for Daniel Jones.

However, there’s also a faction advocating for the replacement of Jones with a younger, potentially more durable and effective quarterback over the long haul.

Should the Giants opt to stay put or even maneuver to secure a quarterback, the question remains: who is their preferred target? According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, there’s strong speculation within the league that the Giants have their eyes set on North Carolina’s Drake Maye as their quarterback of choice.

Raanan notes, “There is a strong belief by some in the league that Maye is the Giants’ guy. Perhaps it has to do with him being the most similar to Daboll’s former pupil, Allen. Maye is the one who could force New York to mortgage part of its future in order to address the most important position on the roster. He also could benefit from sitting a year behind Daniel Jones.”

This scenario seems almost designed to ignite a sense of urgency under Daniel Jones’ tenure as the Giants’ quarterback.

New York Giants 'strongly believed' to covet this top NFL Draft QB prospectNaturally, for Jones, being supplanted by a UNC alum would be a bitter pill to swallow.

However, it’s essential to remember that this is all speculative at this point. Drafting a quarterback in the first round may not even be under consideration for the Giants.
