Steelers bolster depth with signing of former Titans running back.

On Tuesday, May 21, the Pittsburgh Steelers bolstered their running back corps by adding veteran Jonathan Ward. This move was confirmed shortly after Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reported the signing.

Ward, aged 26, secured a one-year contract with the team following a successful tryout during the Steelers rookie minicamp held on May 10-11. Having previously played for the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, he is entering his fifth season in the NFL.

Originally signed by the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan in 2020, Ward has primarily served on practice squads and contributed on special teams throughout his career. However, he notably made offensive contributions during the 2021 season with the Cardinals, recording 9 carries for 33 yards.

During his tenure with the Titans last season, the Kankakee, Illinois native appeared in 7 games and rushed 3 times for 11 yards.

Ward’s impressive performance at the Steelers’ rookie minicamp caught the attention of Steelers running backs coach Eddie Faulkner, as reported by Nick Farabaugh of Steelers Now.
